Got Your 6 and Getting out the Veteran’s Vote

The year of 2016 has been one of the most contentious election years in modern American politics. As proof of this we have all seen a flurry of events occur on a daily basis that have and continue to stymie even veteran political observers. In the midst of the high stakes involved in this year’s races, we have seen voter registration drives aimed at groups as diverse as ethnic and racial minorities to women to Millenials and others. The reason for this is that the difference between candidates is so especially stark this year that it behooves all Americans to participate in shaping the vision they wish to see for America. It is especially important for veterans – who have made and continue to make sacrifices for this country – to exercise this precious freedom so that they can have an influence on determining the direction this country will take. One of the groups dedicated to making sure that veteran’s voices are heard is the veteran’s advocacy organization ‘Got Your 6.’

They have enlisted in their efforts to increase participation by veterans in the political process, celebrities such as Rob Riggle, ex-Daily Show correspondent and retired Marine Corps Reserve lieutenant colonel, David Eigenberg and J.W. Cortes. The effort is nationwide and it is spurred by alarming research from a Pew Research Group report showing that the United States ranks 27th among 35 developed democracies in voter participation rates. We at eMarine PX support the efforts of ‘Got Your 6’ and encourage all veterans to participate in the American system of governance that many have fought and died for.
