September 11 Marines Remembered

It’s hard to believe that is has been 15 years since the tragic day of September 11, 2001. I know for most of us it feels like just yesterday. Looking back on the horrific events that unfolded that day will never get easier. However, we can always honor the heroes that risked their own lives to help save others. One Marine that comes to mind is Jason Thomas.

Upon hearing about the tragic events Thomas sprang into action, despite having left active duty one-month prior. “Off-duty” is not the mindset of a Marine when others are truly in need. Thomas gave a statement to the press about why he acted in such a manner, “Someone needed help. It didn’t matter who,” he said. “I didn’t even have a plan. But I have all this training as a Marine, and all I could think was my city is in need.”

Once arriving to the scene Thomas encountered another former Marine by the name of David Karnes. The two devised a search and rescue plan and set out to save anyone and everyone they could. Unfortunately, at this point there were few left to be saved. Karnes and Thomas did successfully save the lives of two Police officers trapped beneath debris. Without their efforts the two police officers would have been left for dead. It is stories like these that can make any Marine proud to wear their Marine Corps Apparel knowing that it has significant meaning behind it.

The Ideal Gift for Patriotic Friends and Family

We all know that the satisfaction one gets from giving a gift to a friend or family member regardless of the occasion is sometimes diminished when the person receiving the gift seems less than enthused about the gift selection.  Though the recipient may not express it in so many words, we can always sense the letdown and disappointment.  Moreover, we all know the hassle of trying to select the right gift for someone else.  What does he or she want?  What color would they like?  Will they truly appreciate their gift?  Well, by giving Gift Certificates the guess work can be eliminated.  The person, to whom we wish to express our appreciation, thanks or love, etc., gets to pick out their own gift.  That is why USMC gift certificates are such a great idea for the Marine in your life.  These gift certificates can be used to buy clothing, books, DVDs, coin, collectible, decals, and other USMC gifts for military minded loves ones.  They come in $25, $50, $75 and $100 values and came be printed on our site or emailed to friends, family, co-workers, etc.

The best thing about the gift certificates – aside from their convenience – is that they never expire unlike many other kinds of coupons.  (How many times have you gone to a store and tried to use a coupon only to realize that it has expired?)  By entering the gift certificate number online the holder can use the amount on the gift certificate towards the purchase of any item online.  Veterans or friends and family of servicemen and women can pick and choose what they want thus reducing the chance that they will be disappointed by a gift you have chosen for them instead.  You treat and let them choose.

Fashion to Inspire: Marine Workout Clothing

Being a Marine is more than a profession, and certainly more than a paycheck. The mentality of a Marine is all-consuming. To be a Marine is to take part in one of this Nation’s greatest comradery and brotherhood’s.  The symbol of the Marine Corps is to be worn and exhibited with pride, for this is an honor not to be taken lightly. Marine Corps clothes come in a variety of types from hoodies, to cycling jerseys and socks, to short and sweats.  Marine Corps products also include things like marine workoutpins that you can wear during your workout to symbolize your esprit de corps. Only a true Marine can beam with pride while sporting the attire of their fellow brothers and sisters. Often time Marine Corps clothes are worn as pieces of motivation and drive. If a fellow Marine is wearing a Marine Corps t-shirt to workout they work harder, and fight through the excuses in their head. They know they can finish anything because they are a Marine. This type of motivation boasts self-esteem and drive simply by wearing the symbol they have come to know as part of their family.

Marine’s use other types of inspiration while working out as well.Clothing is just one method.  Another method is to work oworkoutut with other Marine’s who share similar fitness goals and who are roughly in the same condition as you.  Another way to drive yourself to work out more often is to vary your routine just enough to keep yourself inspired.  However, none of these techniques show the outside world your commitment more than wearing clothing that represents an organization for which personal fitness is essential.  At eMarine PX, we have a variety of workout clothing that will inspire you to achieve your goals and demonstrate to others your pride in the best military organization in the world.

Memorial Day

Many people are confused over the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. So to help you get it straight……

Veterans Day:

This federal holiday falls on November 11 and is designated as a day to honor all who have served in the military.

Memorial Day:

Celebrated the last Monday in May, Memorial Day is the holiday set aside to pay tribute to those who died serving in the military.

Memorial Day is much more than a three day weekend and barbeques. Show your support and respect for those who gave their all for our country by attending events in your community and honor the fallen.

All About Toys for Tots

Since 1996, the U.S. Marine Forces Reserve has collected new, unwrapped toys for 3 months every year throughout the United States and distributed these toys as Christmas presents to less fortunate children in communities in which the campaigns, known as Toys for Tots, are conducted.

Toys for Tots ultimately aims to deliver a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters. The Marines strive to play an active role in the development of our nation’s children and to unite members of local communities in a common cause.

If you want to donate a toy but don’t know what to buy, consider what would be an appropriate gift for your own child or relative. The only items not accepted are realistic looking toy weapons and food.

Toys for Tots programs typically take place in communities in which there is a Marine Corps Reserve Unit. If you would like to donate toys or even volunteer this holiday season, you can find your local Toys for Tots campaign information: here.

And if you’re searching for a present to say thank you to your favorite or local Marine, you can find Marine accessories, collectibles, and more novelties and gifts at

Veteran’s Day – Nov. 11

The day after the Marines’ birthday is Veterans Day – November 11. Veterans Day is a day to honor those who have served in any of the U.S. Armed Forces. This American holiday coincides with other holidays in different parts of the world that also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I.graphic

Ninety five years ago, President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed November 11, 1919 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day:

“To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.”

The day was originally celebrated with parades, public meetings and a brief breaks for all businesses beginning at 11:00am. In 1938, the 11th of November became an official legal holiday dedicated to the cause of world peace. In 1954, at the urging of veterans, the Act of 1938 was passed. This act replaced the word Armistice with the word Veterans, and since that time we’ve celebrated Veteran’s Day and honored all American veterans every year on Nov. 11

November – Celebrate the Troops

Marine Corps Birthday

On November 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution establishing the Continental Marines, and marking the birth date of the United States Marine Corps.

The first marines distinguished themselves from others in a number of operations, blogincluding their very first amphibious raid into the Bahamas. While the Marines disappeared for awhile after the American Revolution, they were formally re-established in 1798, and they have been serving the U.S. faithfully since.

The Marines birthday is celebrated every year with a traditional ball and cake-cutting ceremony. The first formal ball was celebrated in 1925, and there were no formal birthday celebrations prior to 1921. Early celebrations consisted of dancing, mock battles, musical performances and pageants.

By 1952, Commandant Lemuel C. Shepherd, Jr. had outlined the cake cutting ceremony. Today, by tradition, the cake cutting still takes place and the first slice of cake is given to the oldest Marine present, who in turn hands it off to the youngest Marine present.

What Do Marines Do?

The United States Marine Corps is the nation’s amphibious force-in-readiness. The fundamental mission of the Corps is to simply be ready to protect US citizens and interests at the drop of a hat, anywhere in the

Today Marines have two main responsibilities: to remain ready to serve on land, sea and in the air, and to maintain the skills necessary for amphibious operations, and any other duties the President may direct.

U.S. Marines are typically the first on site in emergency situations and hostile areas, as operational readiness is the cornerstone of the Corps’ existence. Besides readiness, the Marines also emphasize versatility and the totally integrated capabilities of the Marine air-ground team.

Being versatile ensures the Marines can complete any duty the President directs. Additionally, the Marines’ method of tailoring their air-ground teams’ structures ensures that each team is a fully integrated component of the greater Marine expeditionary organization, and that each could team could also stand on their own.

Today, as always, Marines stand by at the ready around the world, and keep a constant watch on the sea, and beyond.
